Halloween Hairstyle

Here is Bunny's Halloween Hairstyle!

Sorry that I haven't been doing as much posting as I used to do. It's getting harder to juggle a website, giveaways, a Facebook page, a YouTube channel, product reviews, reading emails, comments, this blog, and such.

By no means am I complaining (you should see how organized I am now!), I love doing this but just wanted to get that out there because some people have been asking about that.

Enough of that, on to the hair 'do!

The Side

The Back

The Top

The style took me about two and a half hours and I plan on switching it up a bit. After a few days, I will remove the Bantu knots for a braided mohawk look, then (once the hair starts to get tangled up because I know it will) I will do one Dutch with the loose hair, then who knows after that?

For the complete instructions, check out this post on the website: right here.

Thank you for reading and have a beautiful and safe Halloween from Bunny and me!

Monday manics episode 1

Monday manics is a little show that my younger brother and sister put together all by themselves. They gather their "props" and "lines" days before and they really put all they had into this so please enjoy!

Down hair styles anyone?

Because natural hair is so big, a great way make it lie down a bit and define your curls is to do a twist out.

One of my favorite things about this hairstyle is that Bunny actually did most of the work! She helped with all the twists that she could reach and she took them out the next for a twist out all by herself!

Pretty cool, huh?

For braiding & twisting the hair you’ll need:

  • Rat tail comb
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Hair moisturizer
  • Hair clips to section hair
  • Rubber bands

To begin, I made a thin part in the front of her hair, about two and half inches thick. After that, I made simple cornrows going straight back. Once I ran out of room to cornrow, I added a pink rubber band soaked in coconut oil.

If you look at the bottom of her twist out, you can see that some of her ends look like a rope twist out while others look a little frizzy. I'm not too worried about that because I know she'll get better with time!

Look Below to See How We Did Many Different Styles With This One Style:

Yet many people say that natural hair isn't versatile. Strange, huh? Well, I beg to differ. Four styles in one week with the same front cornrows.

Three Strand Twist

Quick video showing how to a three strand twist. I let my younger brother stay in the room while Bunny and I made a video so it's pretty out there but I really hope this answers Kendall and Aria's questions about how to a three stand!

Plus, Bunny makes an announcement!

P.S. the announcement is that Bunny and our younger brother are going to start making little comedies every week for you all! First one goes life on Monday, please stay tuned for that!

Curly long hair styles anyone?

Today is a very big day for my little sister because for the first time ever, she did her own hair! I had to do the twists in the very back, but she definitely did most of the style herself :D

It took her a good three hours to two strand twist the back (I’d done cornrows in the front about two weeks earlier) but she stuck with it the whole time with no complaining!

curly long hair styles

For twisting the hair you’ll need:

  • Denman Brush
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Hair moisturizer
  • Hair clips to section hair

curly long hair styles

It’s super easy to two strand twist hair. All you have to do is twist one strand around the other one. Once you’ve mastered this hairstyle, you can move onto twist outs, rope twists, and three strand twists!

curly long hair styles

The coolest part about rope twists is that the twist outs coming out looking like a braid out on locks! It’s pretty cool.

And the coolest thing about three strand twists is that the twist outs come out with a much wider curl pattern than other twist outs.

Enjoy these pictures of my nine-year-old sister rocking her first hairstyle!

Man, as I look at these pictures I realize that her hair has really been growing! LOL no wonder it's been taking longer than usual to style it!

Crown Dutch Braid

Hello everyone!

You may remember this hairstyle from this post on my website:

medium curly hair styles

Well, a day of swimming, several bath nights, wrestling with brothers, playing with a puppy and a dog, made the hairstyle look like this:

dutch braid

Not exactly a look we were going for. I took the chubby Dutch braids out, gently detangled with Royal Curl Moisture Rich Conditioner and our Denman, then re-braided it for this look:

Much, much better! Thanks for stoppin' by!

Retail Price: 34.00 for sixteen ounces

Our Review:
The first thing I noticed about this product was that it was incredibly creamy and smooth. It had the texture of whipped Honey Mustard (yes, that was the best thing I could think if).

The smell was quite strong of lemons, bonus points! I used this product to do a simple two strand twist out in Bunny’s hair and it came out super cute.

I like this product, I don’t love it. I think the price is bit crazy but to each his own.

Our Review:

LOVE THIS PRODUCT

It gave Bunny’s tight curls SO much hang! She washed her hair in four braids with the Royal Curl Stay Clean Shampoo then came to me with her hair dripping wet and sparkling clean!

I took one braid out at a time, added this conditioner as a leave-in from root to tips like instructed, then combed her hair through with a wide tooth and our Denman. I put each section into three or four smaller braids before moving on to the next section.

Typically her hair shrinks up to her ears but this stuff made her hair hang several inches past her shoulders which is unheard of! Once the product was applied her hair just seemed to grow. It was really cool.

We both really love this curly hair conditioner and it’s now her staple one. Two checks for both the Royal Curl Shampoo and now their conditioner too! I was also sent the Royal Curl Shaping Crème and Soothing Oil but won’t get to test those out for another week or so because Bunny’s hair is going into cornrows. We just don’t have enough hair time in the mornings for doing hair so braids will help out lots.

Thank you Queen Helene for this great opportunity! Please check out their website here: Queen Helene

Our Review:

Today marks a huge accomplishment over here at my house because for the first time ever, Bunny got to do the product review all by herself for this hair product company! Yahoo!

And now, turning it over to her...

First I was like, this isn’t to work because I used so little and then my hair went all soft. When I got out of the shower and I was combing my hair through it was really easy!

I love Queen Helene!

No more stripped hair!

So there you have it folks! Straight from the nine year olds mouth! Let it be known that I recommend this shampoo over every single one out there and it’s now Bunny’s staple product.

Thank you Queen Helene for reaching out with your amazing product! Everyone seriously needs to head over to the website and get this shampoo. Go here: Queen Helene Royal Curl.

Hair Buns & Flowers

I remixed Bunny's bun Mohawk into two hair buns today for school. I did this because I was a little worried about how much tension was on the sides of her hair with it being pulled into the middle of her head.

Nothing too special or fancy, three braided headbands and two braided buns with flowers. Quick and easy!

My little brother

So, I don't know if anyone's noticed that there always seems to be a little boy (or a foot or a knee or some hair or something) in the pictures that I take of Bunny and her hair and that's our little brother.

His nickname is Buddy and he's six and the other day he was like, "Why don't you ever put me on your blog," so I couldn't say no to his little face so here he is:

little black kids

(And you can see my dad's arm if you look to the top left in the background)

little black kids

Him and Bunny are ALWAYS together since he could walk really. They eat together, go to school together, they sleep together, they NEVER stop talking....

Anyway, he is going to be very happy when he sees that. Thanks for reading! You made a little boy very happy :D

Bun Mohawk

This bun Mohawk is one of my favorite African American kids hairstyles yet! It all happened because Bunny’s freshly washed, conditioned, detangled, and stretched hair was starting to tangle up really badly and I really needed to tie it down somehow or another.

You make this into a ten minute hairstyle even, if you left out the cornrows in the front and did more buns instead, it’s all up to you!

how to style curly hair

For braiding the hair you’ll need:

  • Rat tail comb
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Hair moisturizer
  • Hair clips to section hair
  • Ponytail Holders
  • Bobby Pins

how to style curly hair

how to style curly hair

To begin, I parted out a rectangle shape for the side cornrows. I did three cornrows in all and used fifteen beads, four on the first braid, five on the second, and six on the very last one.

how to style curly hair

Before I smoothed her edges down or pinned her hair under

After that I pulled the rest of her hair pack into three ponytails stacked on top of each other. I used a little moisturizer and my Denman brush to smooth back her edges.

When smoothing down edges remember to be as gentle as possible so you don't cause breakage!

The back of her 'do

I finished this hairstyle by taking a section of hair, rolling it up, and pinning it down with a booby pin on each side. Easy!

Overall she really loves her hairstyle and people kept complimenting her 'do! This may just be our new fallback hairstyle, who knows?

How NOT to detangle hair

I got an email today from someone (who wishes to stay anonymous) and they asked me share this very disturbing movie on my blog. Anyway, it's about a mother (if you could call her that) trying to detangle her absolutely adorable baby girl's hair. She's so stupidly using a brush and the childs hair is bone dry. This made me cry and it's quite disturbing and graphic so I don't recommend you allow kids to look at this.

Doesn't this just break your heart?

There's a whole lot of things that I wanted to say but decided against it.

Thank God for all the AMAZING hair blogs and sites available now so people don't have to resort to this. Shout out to all the awesome bloggers to keep doing what you're doing! You guys rock!

Best products for curly hair

Those of you who are looking for the best products for curly hair, I hate to break it to you but there is one product that you’re searching for, and it’s this Shea Butter Sculpting Wax from Beautiful Curls! I’ll admit that I was skeptical about putting wax in anyone’s hair, but this stuff really and truly is the bomb!

beautiful curls wax

Product Description:
Certified Fair Trade Shea Butter sculpting wax for curl separation, shine and texture. With virgin coconut oil for added shine. Great for waves, finger curls and flicks.

What It Is:
A shea butter wax

Who It's For:
People searching for the best products for curly hair

What It Smells Like:
Quite strong and really not that pleasant

length check

My sisters texture after using this product

How To Use It:
I simply scooped a little but out of the tub with my fingers, rubbed it between my fingers to soften (like Billy Mays did on the Mighty Putty commercials), and applied it to my little sisters clean, conditioned, dry hair and it worked like a charm! It moisturized and it stretched her curly pattern out quite a bit!

Full Ingredients:
Certified Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera), Kpangnan Butter (Pentaderma butyracea), Sesame Oil (Sesamum indicum), Carnauba Wax (Copernicia prunifera), Coconut Oil (and) Raspberry Fruit Extract (and) Ylang Ylang Flower Extract

Color:

Medium beige

Texture/Consistency:

Thick, but nothing like hair grease or gel

Cost:

$10 for two ounces, which is pretty pricy, but a little goes a long way

Our Review:

I gotta hand it to the company, they really outdid themselves with this hair wax. It moisturizes, smoothed down Bunny’s hair, and helped detangled as well. The only downside to the product is the price, but it can easily replace your leave-in and your detangling sprays/creams! Thanks Beautiful Curls for making another great product!

-Disclosure: These products were sent to me free of charge from the company for the purpose of this review, the opinion of the product is my own.
