Two Strand Twists

For those of you who don’t follow our Natural-hair-care-info.com website, I recently put Bunny’s hair into mini two strand twists!

She has gotten SOOOO complements on them!

They didn’t take that long, they’re aging beautifully, and they really seem to fit her personality!

And for the record, my fingers were tingling for about two days!

Worth it, of course =)

Also, I got quite a few emails (you can contact us on our Facebook Page or through our email address: naturalhaircareinfo at gmail dot com) about the whole process, so I wanna answer those here so everyone who'd like to learn, can learn!

Did you blow dry her hair?
No, I put it into twelve Ghana Plaits three days prior to the actual twisting process began.

Did you straighten it?
Nope, see above.

What products did you use?
Washed: Mixed Chicks Sulfte Free Shampoo
DC'ed: Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner for Hair
Conditioned: Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner
Moisturized: Beija Flor Naturals Cream Brulee

Will you trim her twists?
Yes, I trimmed her hair twists the day after I finished. I took about an inch off of the bottom =)

How long will they last?
I will *make* them last at least a month!

How long did they take?
I twisted her hair over the course of three days, devoting two hours a day to her hair for a total of about six hours, give or take.

How long has she been natural?
Since the day she was born =)

Is that all of her hair or did you add yarn/extensions/weave/etc?
Yes! Every single strand is hers!

How will you maintain them?
This is about day 4 and I haven't done much with them. Those Mixed Chicks products are the bomb! Her hair still feels soft and moisturized. I did, however, pull of her twists up into a hair bun for her gym class but that was it!

Each day I took down four braids (one braid at a time, of course) and changed it into several dozen mini twists

And then I changed each little part into four mini two strand twists

Hairstyles for School

More quick and easy hairstyles for school!

I was inspired to do this twist hairstyle after Jessica B. contacted me and told me that she was searching for quick cute school hairstyles for her young daughter.

I usually spend two hours cornrowing Bunny’s hair a week, however, this hairstyle only took an hour plus one break in the middle.

I doubt it will last as long as any of my cornrow hair designs do, but it’s quick and super cute!

Which makes it a great hairstyle for those school days!

My little sister’s cute twist hairstyle!

For braiding the hair you’ll need:

• Rat tail comb
• Wide tooth comb
• Hair moisturizer
• Hair clips to section hair
• Rubber bands

As always, I started with clean, detangled, stretched hair.

When I say this hair style was super simple, I mean just that.

Using a rat tail comb, I parted out a box in the front and tied the rest of her hair out of the way. Using the box I’d just parted out, I began cornrowing her hair to the side.

Once I ran out of room for the cornrows to stick to her head, I tied it off with a rubber band and two strand twisted her hair to the end. I did this until I was all out of hair to cornrow and I did twists everywhere else.

TIP! You can do box braids or rope twists where I did regular two strand twists if you’d like. It’s completely up you. Just remember that box braids take longer to take out and rope twists tend to lock up if you forget to moisturize them or leave them in too long.

Each day we’ll change it up a bit with different hair ribbons, hair flowers, or hair bows.

This is an easy hairstyle that’ll last a week.

And don’t be afraid to do “simple styles”. They can be just as cute!

Medium Curly Hair Style

I was asked by J.G. to do a hair style for a medium curly hair length little girl with lots and lots of shrinkage!

This lady – J.G. – asked me to do a natural hair style that showed off some length, could last at least two to three weeks, and that could easily be maintained on a daily basis.

Despite what I originally thought, all that was no problem at all! Here’s the hairstyle that I came up! Enjoy :D

Because this hair style was going to be extremely difficult to explain, I made a how to video for this hair style instead. Hopefully it’ll all make sense! It’s right below this, enjoy!

I will help Bunny maintain this cornrow design by wrapping her hair at night, moisturizing the ends of the braids every morning, and misting the cornrows with a little curl fresher every other day. And that's it!

Bun Mohawk

This bun Mohawk is one of my favorite African American kids hairstyles yet! It all happened because Bunny’s freshly washed, conditioned, detangled, and stretched hair was starting to tangle up really badly and I really needed to tie it down somehow or another.

You make this into a ten minute hairstyle even, if you left out the cornrows in the front and did more buns instead, it’s all up to you!

For braiding the hair you’ll need:

• Rat tail comb
• Wide tooth comb
• Hair moisturizer
• Hair clips to section hair
• Ponytail Holders
• Bobby Pins

To begin, I parted out a rectangle shape for the side cornrows. I did three cornrows in all and used fifteen beads, four on the first braid, five on the second, and six on the very last one.

After that I pulled the rest of her hair pack into three ponytails stacked on top of each other. I used a little moisturizer and my Denman brush to smooth back her edges.

When smoothing down edges remember to be as gentle as possible so you don't cause breakage!

I finished this hairstyle by taking a section of hair, rolling it up, and pinning it down with a booby pin on each side. Easy!

Overall she really loves her hairstyle and people kept complimenting her 'do! This may just be our new fallback hairstyle, who knows?
