Natural Hair Growth

Hey guys!

I hope your Thanksgiving was an awesome one filled with lots of blessings and family and laughter. And for all of you black Friday shoppers out there, I hope you found everything you were looking for and had fun!

I haven't been posting too much lately so today (tonight actually) I just wanted to do a quick one on my little sisters natural hair growth.

Early this year, around January or February of 2011

This was just a week or two ago of this month - November 2011
Check out how much fuller her braided Mohawk is!

--------------------

This picture was taken in the beginning of the year - January 2011
Her hair was a little bit past arm pit length here

Lastly, I took this one about a week ago - November 2011
And now her hair is just grazing waist length

I think people assume that she's always had nice hair because she's always been natural, when that's not the case at all. She used to hate hair time because I sucked at detangling (Yes, I'm ashamed about that now but it's true) and I greased her hair and brushed her edges with rough brushes and ripped ponytails in and out of her hair...

Yes, it's a miracle that she's still alive.

One day I was doing her hair and she was mad because I was probably hurting her and I thought, why does hair time have to hurt? After that I started caring for her hair very gently and within a month I noticed new growth! The next few weeks I learned how to twist and cornrow her hair (I hadn't discovered hair blogs and youtube yet so it was a very slow process!)

I learned a lot in that 4/5 months. It was around Christmas when I discovered the internet and found CurlyNikki.com. I thought, I could do that... And the rest is history.

Just a reminder to you ladies out there that it's never too late to grow your natural hair long, strong, healthy, and HUGE! :) Have a wonderful evening!

Natural Hair Straightening

I haven't given my hair a good hair cut in far too long, so last night I straightened it and cut it :)

I tried to make a video on how I straighten my hair and it was an epic fail thanks to my little sister!

WARNING! This is us, unedited and uncut!

Our Review:

I wanna thank SomethingAboutSilver.com for picking me to do this review. I LOVE this website! Above all, I have to point out the level of patience, corporation, and care that they showed towards me while we figured the details of this review out.

There are some things I just won’t buy because the people who make it are so rude or difficult, so I love that Something About Silver only has some of the most pleasant people I’ve ever had the opportunity of working with.

They have my full recommendation and I give them ten thumbs up. The necklace they sent is so beautiful. Be sure to check out the website here and let them know that NHCI sent you: SomethingAboutSilver.com

-Disclosure: These products were sent to me free of charge from the company for the purpose of this review, the opinion of the product is my own.

QOTD - Is it fair to the children to cornrow their hair?

Hello everyone! And welcome to the new followers!

I was going to post the latest hairstyle today but I got this letter last night I wanna share this instead.

The Letter:

Hey NHCI,
I admire the fact that you've taken it upon yourself to care for your little sisters hair - it's very impressive - but I think you need help with the mental aspect of being born AA.

By making 'Bunny' sit still for two hours so you can plait her hair down and do those fancy little designs is ridiculous! You talk about about how beautiful natural/nappy hair can be, yet you never let her wear it out! What kind of message does that send?

I think all black people have brainwashed them self into thinking that the children don't mind. They do mind, you've just braided washed them so they don't know anything else.

Stop trying to make her look white and let her express herself!!! That's all I'm saying about the matter. Thanks for nothing. - Anonymous

I never thought about it that way at all to quite honest. I braid Bunny's hair so when we get up for school or she goes to the music school or she's heading to the gym or whatever, we don't have to spend extra time doing something with her hair.

(I don't think anyone in my family has ever been early for anything in our life's so adding hair time BEFORE we went somewhere would be suicide.)

And yes, she does prefer to wear it out 24/7, but she also wants to grow it long and she doesn't retain length without protective styles.

Weight in and lemme know if you agree or disagree (I know I sure do!!!) with what she's saying?! Thanks and have a great one!

Medium Curly Hair Style

I was asked by J.G. to do a hair style for a medium curly hair length little girl with lots and lots of shrinkage!

This lady – J.G. – asked me to do a natural hair style that showed off some length, could last at least two to three weeks, and that could easily be maintained on a daily basis.

Despite what I originally thought, all that was no problem at all! Here’s the hairstyle that I came up! Enjoy :D

Because this hair style was going to be extremely difficult to explain, I made a how to video for this hair style instead. Hopefully it’ll all make sense! It’s right below this, enjoy!

WAIT! Before you watch this movie, let it be known by all that I never realized that I man handled my little sisters head like that. She's never mentioned it and it never really accurded to me...*ashamed*

For braiding the hair you’ll need:

As always, I started with clean, detangled, stretched hair.

More Pictures :D

I will help Bunny maintain this cornrow design by wrapping her hair at night, moisturizing the ends of the braids every morning, and misting the cornrows with a little curl fresher every other day. And that's it!

I really, REALLY hope you love this style J.G. And don't forget, I have to braid Bunny's hair every week or so anyway, so it might as well be something that you want to see! Click here to request a special hair style!

Sisters. Enough Said :)

The very first thing people say/notice/think about Bunny and me is that there is no way that we could be sisters because we look very different.

I think it's pretty sad that people don't realize that being black means you can be any color from alabaster to ebony and any color in between. I've always thought as black/African-american as being a race, and not so much a color.

The fact of the matter is that we are biological siblings.

She looks more like our mom - who is dark.

While I look more like my dad - who's fair.

Our noses are different, our mouths, our hair types, our personalities, everything.

I don't know that many sisters that actually look alike and even fewer who act alike. And if they do like the same things they ain't sharing it.

We're very different and that's a good thing, because individuality is something to be celebrated and cherished. A world filled with just me or just you would be a very strange in indeed.
